Black Yard Farm is a Black-centered, Black woman-led farm collective working to increase representation, ownership, and diversity within today’s agricultural system. Our approach includes:

1. Expanding a farm operation that offers subsidized, high-quality food to underserved communities impacted by food apartheid.

2. Creating a welcoming space where Black students can learn farming practices and history from educators who reflect their identity

3. Providing Black communities with space to reconnect with the land and experience rest and joy in agricultural settings. This helps shift the narrative beyond a history rooted in sharecropping and chattel slavery toward one of healing, ownership, and empowerment.

FAQ

  • The genocide of indigenous Americans and forced labor and enslavement of African folks allowed America to grow its economy exponentially. It is because of this that Reparations are owed. True Reparations should come from the United States government. While we anticipate the development of this repair on a government level as individuals there are opportunities to provide much needed relief on a smaller scale in real time.

The wealth of this country was built through the genocide of Indigenous people and the forced labor of enslaved Africans. While true reparations should come from the U.S. government, individuals can take meaningful action by redistributing resources now.

Interpersonal reparations are a way for those with racial and economic privilege to directly support communities that have been systemically denied access and opportunity.

Black Yard Farm has faced many of these barriers. Your support helps repair that harm by investing in a Black-led farm focused on justice, healing, and collective liberation.

  • Your contributions help cover essential farm operations, including the creation of educational materials for both virtual and on-site workshops. They also make it possible to offer free or low-cost access to the farm, fresh food, educational programs, and farm-based activities.

  • We occasionally recognize contributors on our website, in our newsletter, or on social media. If you prefer to remain anonymous, just let us know and we’ll respect your privacy.

  • No, Black Yard Farm is not a nonprofit or 501(c)(3) charity. We are a for-profit, Black-led farm operating within a system that has long exploited Black labor through slavery, sharecropping, and other unjust practices. Wealth and resources continue to be withheld from Black communities. Your contributions help redistribute that wealth and support ongoing efforts toward justice and repair.

  • Each month, you’ll receive an email receipt for your contribution, which includes a link to cancel your subscription at any time.
